Sheep Show
Fresno County 4-H
Sheep Show
When: Saturday, August 8, 2009
Check-in and weigh-in: Starting at 9:00 AM
Show Begins: 10:00 AM with Showmanship
Where: Fresno Fairgrounds Livestock Pavilion
Showing in the old Swine Arena
What: This show is in lieu of the sheep show at the Fresno
County 4-H Fair, which was in May. This will give
4-H members a chance to show their market lambs
before they exhibit at the Fresno Fair in October.
Breeding sheep are also welcome. We will follow
the entry list for the 4-H Fair and use those entry
forms to pre-enter your sheep. The list and forms
are on the 4-H website here:
Eartagging: The morning of this show the livestock
department at the Fresno Fair will be eartagging the
lambs to be market lambs at the Fresno Fair. This
eartagging is mandatory and this will be your opportunity
to get it done. They will be also weighing the lambs
for a weight of gain contest. You must make an
appointment for eartagging before 9:30 AM. The fair
has forms for appointments that must be faxed or mailed
to them.
Entries: Due Monday August 3, 2009 by 4:00 PM to the 4-H Office,
1720 S. Maple, Fresno, CA 93702.
Entries $2.00 per class. All exhibitors entered in
showmanship at no cost.
Exhibiting: Everyone will be encouraged to work out of their trailers
to cut down the cleanup. Bring forks and brushes to clean
your area before leaving. If pens are needed, everyone will
have to cleanup after themselves. Because of the possibility
of infection from the pens, exhibitors have to disinfect with
bleach water before penning. This will be a waterless show
meaning that there will be no washing of animals at the
show. Clipping and washing must be done at home.
4-H Uniform: Members showing animals must wear the 4-H cap and tie
or scarf, white shirt, and for this show only blue jeans are
acceptable.
Inspection: NO sheep with sore mouth or club lamb disease will be
allowed to participate. Sheep will be inspected before
unloading.
Food: Fair policy does not allow any food in the barns. Water can
be only in pop up top water bottles.
