Program Goals
The goals of this program are to conduct research and provide educational materials to growers, the agricultural industry and the public on agricultural issues related to cotton production and the use of soil and water resources. The program focus is varied with information provided on environmentally responsible and economical sound cotton production practices. The program regularly provides information and materials related to soil and water resource use, including irrigation and drainage management, soil management, soil fertility and amendment use.
Program Emphasis
Major program activities are currently related to crop water use in cotton, salinity and drainage management of Western Fresno County irrigated acreage and newly emerging irrigation methods for field and row crop growers. Ongoing local and regional needs of the cotton industry include cotton varietal evaluation, improving Pima cotton production practices, and exploring opportunities for conservation tillage in cotton. Nutrient management and development of precision farming techniques are explored for irrigated agricultural systems.
